The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash

Rating: 8/10

I’m just gonna call this Weakest Tamer for simplicities sake…

Pros:

Decent worldbuilding! It doesn’t go too much into detail, but it does NOT give you overwhelming exposition. You get a sense of how the rating system of skills works in the world, and even forget for a bit because the skills and ratings in general aren’t important to the main plot.

Nuance! I love stories that actually give depth to their gimmicks. For example, no real spoilers, a guy says that he trained his defense to be on par or above a defensive special skill. The skills aren’t end all be all, which I LOVE.

Story! The story is not your typical isekai. The main character isn’t overpowered, underpowered (considering that her “lack” is actually a special skill in it of itself), and her power stays the same through the whole story. Like I said in the first pro, the worldbuilding is great in the sense that skills aren’t the only thing that define people. They just act like natural talents in the real world, i.e. it supports a person but doesn’t give them everything they ever wanted. The main idea of the story is simply a character trying to survive. The little mystery towards the end of the season is just a cherry on top! While the character is a little flat, they are reasonably behaved for their age and given perks.

Characters! I love these characters. I love their designs, personalities, interactions, etc. There is a single scantily clad woman in the ENTIRE 12 episodes, and it’s a scummy character. Bravo author!! The women are reasonably dressed, have depth, and while there aren’t many in the whole show, you can see why there aren’t: The character is trying to blend into the male crowd, so most of the show’s characters are men. And they are a diverse bunch to say the least! Each one of them has their quirks, and the ones that are good role models exemplify the peak qualities of men. Also the main character is just adorable. Also, the fact that their “past life” is kind of like a minor eldritch sage recalling the modern era to someone who has no idea what they mean is very entertaining.

Length. It’s the perfect day-binge anime. 12 episodes, 30 minutes each, a mostly conclusive story and very entertaining! There’s a great mystery element towards the end.

Cons:

Story… You can’t have everything. While the story was quite well resolved, there is room for a second season with the ending. I wasn’t satisfied with the ending based on the mission of the MC we’re reminded of every episode. Hopefully we’ll get the loose ends tied up with a second season, if it’s ever produced…

Worldbuilding. While the skills are quite well done, it’s a pretty copy paste fantasy world with monsters instead of animals. This isn’t Dungeon Meshi here… but it’s complete enough to suspend disbelief.

Character. The main character is bland in personality. They’re a goody-two shoes with trauma. However, the story around them unfolds in an interesting way, so I can’t complain too much. It’s almost as if you watch for the world’s reaction to them as opposed to their reaction to the world around them.

Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout

Rating: 9/10

Queer-coded “isekai” about two dudes, one of them turns into a hot girl and they try not to fall in love

Pros:

Comedy! It’s hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. Better yet, it’s hilarious without being overtly crude. I don’t even think of it as crude at all. It’s just two dudes trying not to fall in love and it’s hilarious.

NO FANSERVICE! No upskirt shots, no bobbling boobas, no overt pedophilia (there is reference to “childlike features”, but it’s only facial structure, and it’s only mentioned in the beginning episode and framed as weird). The boobs are few and honestly I prefer it that way.

Queer-coded! It might be queer bait, but honestly, it’s understandable queer bait lol. The main guy is exclusively not attracted to women anyway, so I’d say he’s definitely demi-bisexual at the very least. His friend is straight presenting, but the “curse” they are under makes him bisexual. He miiiiiight be straight leaning bisexual naturally, but this specific instance makes him bisexual. Also, he’s literally a man trapped in a girl’s body, which makes him transgender. It’s amazing. I love it. It’s hilarious. Also there’s an actual gay guy in it, so that’s awesome. You cannot convince me he isn’t gay. Bro’s out and proud.

Worldbuilding, kind of. It’s not focused on since it follows the basic “a goddess sent me here and I’m trying to get back” trope, which I don’t really see as traditional isekai. However, the characters recognize differences and it’s not really built on that much. I do like the idea that the “demon king” is kind of like a fairytale to the general population, so finding it is difficult. It’s a nice change to “alright, let’s go get him right now and not focus on anything else”.

Cons:

Not sure yet. I was in such a rush to proclaim this anime’s comedy gold that I haven’t finished it yet haha. I shall edit this when my rational brain is no longer oppressed by my desire for queer comedy.
